It would be awesome if you could fly...

But sadly that's not possible. When I jumped out of the plane frankly I lost all orientation of ground and sky but it was an amazing feeling. It was then that I wished; if I could fly...

The Bostonian Rhapsody

NYC the city that never sleeps, the city where you need to think twice before you move into an alley to take a leak, the city where you… aaarghh screw it, NYC that’s where we start our trip to Boston, we??? Well me and Nian. We reached just in time for the 20:30 bus; that would be 20:15. We bought the tickets and that’s when we realized that we were hungry. So after we bought the tickets we promptly went into a restaurant and ordered some chicken noodles; which they promptly told us would take 15 mins; so much for dinner. We brought a sandwich and headed for the bus. The trip from New York to Boston takes about four hours, since we couldn’t do much on the bus we decided to as well take a nap.

Now as I take this four hour sleep lemme introduce to my other friend who would be receiving us in Boston, his name is Sean. I know him from 3 years, he is one of those guys whom I have terrorized big time, of course as a friend. The trip seemed very short maybe it was because we were asleep and soon we were at Boston. We got down at Boston South Station and waited for Sean. Now Sean was waiting for us at of course Boston South Station but the train station. So I informed him where we were and finally we met.

He had rented a car and well didn’t have much driving experience so the trip to his house was fun since we were going on the freeway at around 40 mph and the limit was 65 mph. The freeway was empty since it was 2:00 in the morning but yet he kept his dark side suppressed and drove at 40. If all people were to have his fortitude the cops would be handing out tickets for driving below the limit. What would we call it, Utopia?

We reached his home safe and sound planned events for the next day and retired to bed. Nian had an unique ability, irrespective of when he slept he always woke up at 7:30 am, ya I know Bizzare!! So confidently we didn’t keep the alarm and surely Nian did wake us up at 8:00. After a breakfast we took up the task of searching on the internet the closest beach we can go to. We found one which was at a 45 mins drive by the name Wollaston. Now the route to the beach required us to reach I-93 then move onto I-95 and so on…

Now according to the map we needed to follow I-93 N then merge on to I-95 and so on. So we started with the map, but Sean told that he knew a shortcut to reach I-93 and so with Sean as our savior we reached I-93 and promptly took the north exit. Of course we first missed the exit the first time then we went ahead took a U-turn then took the exit, a last minute turn. This was just the start of the adventure, now as we were cruising along I-93 N we realized that we were going in the opposite direction. So we took another exit and turned to I-93 S.

As we were cruising Nian suddenly had a vision and we took another exit, I really don’t know why we took that exit. We roamed around a bit because we needed to take a U-turn and finally when we succeeded at doing it, we took the exit to merge onto I-93 S!!! I know I know it sounds so dumb; you take an exit from I-93 S to merge onto I-93 S, but then it was Nian’s vision and you should never block such visionaries, it could turn out to be harmful for your health. Pssst… such people are WEIRDOS, so better be quiet when they give suggestions.

Now we were on the right path and decided to follow the directions a bit more faithfully and no more shortcuts. So off we went taking left turns and right turns and of course the wrong turns… owww I forgot to mention all this time the driver was, is and would be Sean, and as I had mentioned about his driving experiences he usually took a turn without displaying the indicator. So I took up the responsibility of reminding him about the same, of course it was always preceded with a bit of swear words. At one particular intersection we got lost and we went around the same intersection around 4 times. And each time we took the same wrong turn.

The end result we were lost but thanks to the help we received from the locals we finally managed to reach Wollasten beach, of course after jumping a red light.

This is the view of Boston from Wollaston Beach.

Now the beach did not quite turn out to be what we had expected it to be. So we just followed the shore line and happened to reach
Nut Island. Now that was one beautiful place. We moved around the place watching the sea, taking a whiff of the beautiful sea breeze and of course clicking meaningless snaps.

Now it was time to go back. Going back was again fun with me swearing and reminding to put the indicator and Nian giving directions. Nian being a nice guy didn’t know much of swear words or so it seemed.

We decided to visit MIT and went around the place to find a parking spot. After having done that we roamed around, had lunch, stared at a few geeks and came back just in time before our parking meter expired.

The photo says its all

Again the journey to MIT had a li’l bit of everything; turns with no indicator, going straight on a left only lane, wavering within the lane (that was particularly evident on the freeway when Sean would waver a bit to the right, always having one set of wheels in the other lane). Adding to the chaos, there would be me telling him to turn left when we had to turn right. Frankly my sense of direction is not really great so I usually end up indicating right with my hand and yelling out left. That made both Sean and Nian go bonkers and I used to get my share of swears. To say between us we learnt quite a few great swear words.

Well, Sean got his driving lessons loud and clear, I mean literally loud and clear, with me and Nian coaching him as we were clinging to our lives, occasionally checking the seatbelts for any faults and looking in all possible directions before he changed lanes. By the end of the day we had him cruising along I-95 at 65 mph, finally whew!! We had our dinner at a Malasian restaurant and after that we went to a strip club. We bought some drinks and watched the girls perform. After a while we actually got so bored, we left the place. We reached home, opened the vodka we had purchased, made plans for the next day and slept off.

The next day after breakfast we headed to Boston Skywalk Observatory. It is located on the last but one floor of the Prudential Centre. From here we got a 360 view of Boston, got a bit of history lessons and then it was lunch time and time to say goodbyes. With the sweet memories of Boston and the adventurous trip; we bid goodbyes to each other. As I sat in the bus to NYC and pondered over the events in the past 36 hours I realized that the trip just got added to my list of “a trip of a lifetime” list. Every individual have such a trip and the only way to remember it is to be able to recreate the entire trip bit by bit in our minds every time we think about it, hence the blog. I leaned on my seat listening to the sweet music in my ears (from the iPod) and…

started ogling at the female sitting in front of me!

Du’h what were you thinking!!!
